As lovely as the island is, it's not surprising that many talented
chefs have settled in Aruba. Falling in with the island's relaxed
atmosphere, they've tempered their classical training with local
ingredients to create a wealth of innovative new dishes.
With literally no end in sight to the list of fine dining options
available, it's no wonder that many consider Aruba the gastronomic
center of the Caribbean. Restaurants range from casually elegant
to island casual, and they offer an eclectic selection of cuisines
from around the world.
Dinner reservations are advisable and even required at most restaurants,
especially during high season. If you're planning to dine at one
of the more elegant restaurants, you should dress appropriately
- a sports jacket for men and a dress or pants suit for women. Ties
are optional and rare. Otherwise, casual resort wear will be fine.
A 10-15% service charge will be added to your bill. If not, a 10-20%
tip, according to the quality of the service you received, is appropriate.
Keep in mind that the service charge does not go directly to your
waitperson but is also used to cover restaurant costs. Tipping is
at your discretion.
